Learn More About Bats and How to Deal With Them Effectively

Bats are one of the most challenging problems in the pest control industry. To deal with them effectively, we need to follow the steps below:

  • Determine the bat's species
  • Make certain there are no baby bats around!
  • Find out how they are safely entering and exiting.
  • The entire colony must be removed safely.
  • 100% of the openings must be sealed.
  • Guano droppings must be removed

As easy as it sounds, this checklist is not as simple as it appears. Even experienced professional wildlife organizations find it tough to handle such a sophisticated and detail-oriented process.

Allow our years of experience to get the job done as safely and efficiently as possible. We remove pests using pet and child friendly products so you can feel confident your family is safe to stay inside the house without the risk of harmful chemicals.

What Is the Best Way to Get Bats Out of the Attic?

Education is the most effective tool. Here are some suggestions for dealing with bats in the attic:

TYPE & TIME OF NOISE:

Although bats are nocturnal, they tend to be quiet in small groups, and most people are unaffected. A massive swarm of thousands of bats, on the other hand, creates quite a commotion with their crawling, flying, and squeaking. You'll have the best chance of hearing them at dusk when they're lining up to fly out of the home.

HOW & WHERE THEY GOT INSIDE:

They prefer to fly into houses through small architectural gaps along the roofline's edge, which are usually about 3/8 of an inch wide. They crawl to their roosting sites from there. Because they leave dark discoloration at the entry point from the grease and oil in their fur, it's typically simple to detect where they're going in and out. You may also just keep an eye on the home at dusk to observe where they emerge. It could be in several various parts of the house.

CLUES THAT BATS ARE PRESENT:

Bats are easily identified by the odor of their droppings, often known as guano. It can build up in large quantities, polluting an attic and putting individuals in the house at risk of lung disease.

TIME OF YEAR:

Many bat difficulties arise when the young bats begin to move and fly, and inexperienced young bats may creep down into the house. This normally occurs in August, which is the busiest month for bat control activities.

PROPER BAT DISPOSAL:

Bats must be removed from the attic, and they must not be killed because they are protected as colonies. In any case, you don't want to kill a beneficial bat. One-way exclusion devices are commonly used to keep bats out. The procedure relies heavily on correctly sealing the building.

Is it Ideal to Capture Bats Using Traps?

Many people's initial inclination when confronted with an animal problem is to use cage traps and then relocate the animals. Aside from the fact that traps are hazardous to bats, this method doesn't work well because bats use echolocation to determine their flight path, but this does not pick up wire mesh well enough, causing the bats to become confused, resulting in harm or death.

Bat Exclusion Methods

Exclusion is the most effective technique to deal with a bat infestation, but you must first ensure that you have the proper equipment, which includes a breathing mask and goggles to protect you from airborne particles when the guano is disturbed.

It's advisable to place bat boxes on trees or poles around your home where bats can roost, allowing you to maintain the benefits of having bats in your community.

Attic Sealing and Repairing

Sealing and repairing the attic will cause the bats to leave the attic over the next 2 - 3 days and not be able to return. Seal the remaining holes and remove the exclusion devices once you're sure there are no bats left in the attic. The guano must then be carefully removed and disposed of, and the attic must be disinfected with a fumigant before it can be used again.
